Day 3: Surprising adventures

Total Miles = 190.8

Today turned out to be an amazing adventure. We started with the intention of visiting Las Vegas, New Mexico... and we did. But in the end it was pretty much a bust. Although we did find the building used in the television series "Longmire" for Sheriff Longmire's office and a beautiful old city square with wonderful old buildings. There were also some beautiful old houses in the local neighborhoods... BUT there wasn't a decent cup of coffee to be found anywhere. On the bright side there was a Walmart LOL...

The real adventure was about to begin though. The Walmart happened to be on the right road for us to avoid major roadways and we started working our way towards Raton, NM. The roads in New Mexico are incredibly straight and long and the open spaces continued from yesterday. Along the way we found ourselves on 442 out in the sticks and found this beautiful old mill with water wheel and out buildings and wonderful garden. I'll post more pictures later as I get the time.

We really just droned today. Stopped and walked through little towns, gardens and right in the middle of roads to take pictures and we even missed a turn and found more adventure. It was wonderful. This is gorgeous country but the icing on the day was finding the NRA Whittington Center and staying the night in their outstanding RV park and although having real showers and a laundry to utilize the real treasure was the herd of mule deer and fat rabbits that live around the RV park. We woke up this morning to them munching on the trees in front of our unit. Molly was a bit disconcerted by these pretty big dogs LOL.

The views sitting here are unbelievable but for those of you who know us very well what better safer place to stay then at the premier shooting facility in the country. Very quiet peaceful night and even got to cook the steaks we bought at Walmart!
