Day 17: The Upper Peninsula... WOW

Total Miles today: 144.5

We stayed at Ironwood at a little park owned by the town call Curry Park. Simple, clean and easy to get to. Took our time heading out so a slow start.

We headed towards the Upper Peninsula and Grand Marais... we only made it as far as Marquette. Although not a lot of miles we seemed to go through a lot of small towns along the way. There were some beautiful old railroad bridges, this one was in a town called Ewen, MI.

There's a lot of track with cars being stored on them and a lot of
track that has been pulled up for hiking trails. It is certainly vast and beautiful and REALLY in the middle of nowhere. There are some lovely lakes in the Upper Penisula and in Three Lakes we actually had 3 lakes surrounding the road we were on.

In one town it was posted that snowmobiles are permitted on Route 28. For some reason that made me chuckle.

It has been quite a day and we are staying at the Walmart tonight in Marquette...  We will see what tomorrow brings (hopefully a visit to a cigar shop called "UP (Upper Penisula) in Smoke"). I'll let you know how that goes.
