Day 15: 2 weeks on the road

Total Miles = 143 (approximate)

Two weeks ago today we left on this journey. So far we are hanging in there and haven't killed each other yet. We left Bemidji headed towards Duluth but decided to stop in a KOA campground just before we reached it. Sorry no Walmart tonite ;-)

Before we left Bemidji, MN we stopped at a great little coffee shop and one of the folks there told us about a Paul Bunyan and Babe
the Blue Ox statues downtown by Lake Bemidji at the start of the Mississippi River. So we took a little detour and found a beautiful little town and park with Paul and Babe (yes those are full size pine tree's behind them)... and an amazing lake view (see first picture...the spec is a Loon).

This part of Minnesota that we drove through seems to be more natural marshlands, lakes and rivers. The towns are small but well kept, there are the abandoned houses and such but not like other parts of our journey.

One of the lakes, Cass Lake, surrounded us at one point. We actually drove over an island of sorts to get over/through the lake it was so big. Just gorgeous. I took some photos but some were almost too overwhelming for me to capture.

Along the way we decided to take a quick nap but instead found the Upper Mississippi River Headwaters Project At Pokegama Lake Dam and Reservoir. What a beautiful site! The dam and reservoir blend smoothly with the Bass Brook State Wildlife preserve, marsh and railroad bridge...

We finally reached our destination of Cloquet KOA in Cloquet, Minnesota, cooked a couple of steaks and did some laundry. Tomorrow we will be taking a scenic route through a peninsula in Wisconsin. Now it's time to call it a night and leave you with this photo that I shot from the dam at the Mississippi headwaters.

Have a good night!
