Last night we found a great rest area just before the
Canadian border. If you ever find yourself on Interstate 87 northbound between
MP 161 and 162 before Chazy NY it’s a clean, quiet and safe place to stay. We
were the only ones there… You see the Canadian truckers know that if they cross
their border they get extra driving hours so they don’t stop. This was the first rest area we’ve been to
where we didn’t wake up to the sound of truck engines starting up.
We headed to Plattsburgh NY and took the ferry to Grand Isle
VT…what a beautiful way to travel and it saved us hours of driving time. The
view from up top was breath-taking and as soon as we get some service I will
post pictures and this blog journal. Maine is not conducive to great service
(heck not even mediocre service LOL).
Vermont was a short trip as we were headed towards North
Conway, NH to see the old train station and some great old engines and cars. At
Lincoln, NH we took the Kancamagus Highway which is all twists and turns and at
this time of year is quiet and beautiful. We reached our campsite around 3:30
and headed downtown to walk through the train station and take some pictures.
They were getting a dining car and parlor car ready for a murder
mystery dinner
tour so I was able to sneak on board for some really nice photos. We also
spotted the Round House at Conway with a gorgeous B&M engine and some other
old beauties. Check out more photos on Facebook.
We ended the day at a great little place called the Original
Cigar & Bar to have a puff or two and my allotted drink. What a fun place
to spend a late afternoon! Great place, great product, great staff and
customers that make you feel like you’re a long lost friend! Good way to end the
day.
