Day 38: Tourists

Total Miles - 58.1

We decided to treat ourselves this morning to breakfast out and we did! We found a little place called Karen's Main Street Diner next door to Karen's Main Street Pub in Calais, ME. Well you see on one of the boards they had Lobster Rolls advertised for lunch and when we asked they were happy to oblige our odd choice (see pictures on Facebook). If you're ever in Calais look up Karen's great food and friendly service.

Then we refilled our Dunkin' cups and met a great group of Old Farts (just like our group in Arizona and some other friends in NH) and found out about the 45th parellel and a little town on the water called Eastport. Good conversation and some really great guys. Of course along the road we spotted a beautiful old Studebaker at Lyon's Wrecker.

Then a stop along the way to visit the St Croix Island International Park and found the story of how the French were actually the first settlers here in Maine.

Our journey changed a little when our friend called and we are headed to Lubec to spend a great weekend with them ... of course along the way we had to check out Eastport. And it was worth the visit. You will find some great photo's of today's adventures on Facebook and I really hope you enjoy. OBTW I'm adding a link to this for you nerds to check out. We stopped in a little craft shop that happened to house the working model from the early 1930's of the Passamaquoddy Tidal Power Project. Take the time to read the article and look at the photo. That thing still works today...the tides raise and lower, the dam's gates raise and lower and everything functions like the day it was built. I love these hidden treasures.

Enjoy and we'll post more tomorrow!
